National Volunteers’ Week – Day 1

Today is the launch of National Volunteers’ Week and Sight Concern is celebrating all week the vital role volunteers make in supporting blind and visually impaired people in Worcestershire featuring different volunteers each day. Today we have Jackie Murrall Sight Concern’s volunteer coordinator introducing the week in a short video and a quote from Chair of Trustees Caroline Wigley.

Transcript of Jackie’s Video

Today is the start of volunteers’ week, we are sending out a huge thank you to all our volunteers at Sight Concern Worcestershire who number over 160 in a variety of roles across the county. We are going to feature a different volunteer role each day during the week to give you an idea of the different ways that volunteers can get involved with us. We are planning a sight loss awareness and volunteer induction session in the next few weeks so if you would like to know more about joining our volunteer team, do get in touch for a chat. Thanks to all our volunteers without whom we could not offer such a range of support to people with a visual impairment.

Caroline Wigley Sight Concern’s Chair of Trustees says:

Volunteering can make a real difference to people with sight loss. Our volunteers play an essential role in the work we do. Volunteering enables people to feel part of a wider community of support and there are a variety of different roles to undertake. It is very fulfilling for volunteers to help break down some of the barriers faced by blind and partially sighted people. In my case I am using the skills I had in my professional role on leadership and governance to lead the Board but there are a variety of different roles from befriending, driving, gardening, administration and finance and technology.”
